Brand Designer
Please note: as of September 23, 2026 we are no longer accepting applications for this role.
The Studio
Located in New York City and New Orleans, The Collected Works is an independent design studio that crafts brands in motion. We work across music, art, technology, and culture, building identity systems that move seamlessly across print, web, and motion.
We combine the thinking of a larger agency with the speed, flexibility, and close collaboration of a boutique studio. We’re a team of six, so everyone has a hand in shaping the work, from the first ideas to the final details.
If you’re down to get rad with us, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
We’re looking for a Brand Designer who loves building identities and figuring out how they work beyond the logo. You’ll develop concepts, explore directions, and build out the systems and applications that bring a brand to life.
You’ll work directly with our creative directors and design team on projects for clients primarily in technology, alongside work in entertainment and culture. We’ll establish the brief and overall direction together, then look to you to run with it. You’ll have support and regular feedback, but you should be comfortable making decisions and keeping the work moving between reviews.
We’re primarily looking for a mid-level designer, but we’re also open to a strong junior who’s ready for more ownership. Your ideas, craft, and ability to work independently matter more to us than an exact number of years on your resume.
This is a brand design role first. Motion experience is a plus, not a requirement.
What You'll Do
- Turn creative briefs, research, and brand strategy into visual concepts with a clear idea behind them.
- Develop logos, typography systems, color palettes, imagery, and graphic elements that work together as an identity.
- Explore different directions through moodboards, sketches, design studies, and experimentation.
- Build out identities across websites, campaigns, presentations, social, print, packaging, and other applications.
- Create brand guidelines, templates, toolkits, and Figma libraries that are clear and easy to use.
- Put together presentations that tell the story behind the work, and share your thinking in internal reviews and client conversations.
- Collaborate with our team and creative partners, working through feedback and refining the details together.
- Take ownership of your assigned work, coordinate deadlines with our producer, and flag questions or obstacles early.
- Prepare clean, organized files and see the work through final production.
- Contribute to the studio’s own projects, including case studies, our website, social, and awards submissions.
You're a Good Fit If You...
- Have a strong portfolio of brand identity work that shows both the idea and how it comes together across applications.
- Have at least one year of relevant professional design experience and are ready to take on more responsibility.
- Can take a clear brief and develop a complete visual system without needing step-by-step direction.
- Have a strong eye for typography, composition, color, and visual hierarchy.
- Are proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
- Enjoy exploring different ideas and can explain why a particular direction is worth pursuing.
- Bring your own point of view while staying open to feedback and other ways of approaching the work.
- Are organized, care about the details, and communicate clearly when balancing projects and priorities.
Nice to Have (but Not Required):
- Motion design or animation experience.
- Experience with type design tools such as Glyphs or RoboFont.
- Experience designing websites, digital experiences, or interactive systems.
- An eye for art direction, photography, or editorial design.
- Familiarity with generative design tools and an interest in creative technology.
- Curiosity about the intersection of AI and brand identity systems, including how AI might help us build, extend, or apply an identity.
- Familiarity with AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex for prototyping ideas and building custom design tools.
